Asagiri

Asagiri is a traditional style tanto with a laminated blade made with an L-3, 52100 high carbon ball bearing steel core and laminated with cheeks made from L-3 and 1095 high carbon steel. It has a blade length of 210mm, a blade width of 25mm, the blade thickness is just over 4.5mm and the overall length of the tanto is 330mm. The copper habaki has a patterned surface which has been aged with liver of sulphur. The handle is of a traditional construction with white samigawa which has been wrapped with a grey/blue silk ito which holds in place two kongosho menuki. The handle also has custom made kashira and fuchi with silver tiger claw accents. The traditional carved wooden saya has been sprayed black and then over sprayed with a tough clear lacquer on the surface and has buffalo horn kurigata and koiguchi. The saya has sageo wrapped around the throat which is the same colour as the ito used for the handle.

This whole piece comes with its own custom made display stand which is made from chestnut wood and has an apple wood plaque showing my makers mark and the name of the tanto.
